En als dan één van je favo bands (al zo'n 20 jaar!) een nieuw album uitbrengt dat gaat over het verlies van een dierbare, een moeder, dan is dat emotioneel een schot in de roos. Ongekend ingetogen
Natuurlijk, in 2021 kwam Demon Hunter al met 'teruggeschaalde' versies van fan favorites uit hun indrukwekkende (metal ballad) repertoire. Dat was op het album Songs of Death and Resurrection. Dat album maakte toch niet zo'n indruk omdat het mij alleen maar deed verlangen naar 'het echte werk' - ofwel de originele nummers. Maar [songtekstfragment verwijderd] bestaat alleen maar als ingetogen lied. Er ís geen andere versie en dat is maar goed ook.
Ryan zingt ergens in het nummer “I am no longer a stone” en dat refereert naar vroegere tijden. Op het album True Defiance staat het nummer I Am A Stone dat erg populair is onder de Demon Hunter fans. Een stukje uit de lyrics: I am a stone, unaffected Rain hell down onto me Flesh and bone, unaffected Your fool, I will not be I am a stone, unaffected (I am a stone)
Je moeder kwijtraken aan de dood maakt je niet langer 'unaffected'. Mooi hoe hij dat uitdrukt in de tekst van There Was A Light Here. Het nummer bouwt mooi en emotioneel naar een einde dat mij als - 'ervarene', in meerdere opzichten - luisteraar niet onberoerd laat.
