In 2017 kwam de band Spirit Breaker op mijn radar met hun zelf uitgebrachte album Human Nature. Prima album, maar wist voor mij niet boven het maaiveld uit te steken. In 2021 tekenden ze bij Solid State Records en afgelopen zomer verscheen daar een 'debut' Cura Nata. Wauw, wát een album; vandaag de single Flauros als lyric post.

Zwaar en niet te zwaar
Albums in dit genre zijn zwaar, hard. Bij veel bands kan je daar gemakkelijker 'donker' aan toevoegen. Zeker, kijkend naar de lyrics geldt dat ook voor een band als Spirit Breaker. Maar net als bijv. August Burns Red, Demon Hunter en The Devil Wears Prada spreekt en klinkt er ook hoop in de muziek, althans voor mij wel. Het is muziek die mét je onderkent dat het leven (zeer) moeilijke kanten heeft, maar je óók aanspoort verder te denken, voelen en reiken dan dat. Cura Nata is een 'beukplaat' eerste klas, maar wel eentje met muzikale en tekstuele diepgang. Ik reserveer alvast een plekje op mijn eindejaarslijst van 2021.
