Jaren terug maakte ik via een collega eens kennis met de Zweede (SID-) metalband Machinae Supremacy. Dat was toen middels het nummer Winterstorm dat helemaal strak staat van Commodore 64 geluidjes. Die maken ze met een SidStation (die een SID chip heeft) en dan snap je waarom ze hun eigen metal subgenre zijn. Winterstorm staat op debuutalbum Winterstorm uit 2002 en nu is daar, tien jaar sinds Into the Night World, daar self-titled Machinae Supremacy. Wauw.

In één keer raak
Dit album pakte mij direct vanaf de eerste luisterbeurt. En daar komt mede door die ijzersterke opener Pendulum die vandaag centraal staat. Maar ook Warriors Pt. 1 komt ruim boven het maaiveld uit. Ze zijn (gelukkig) wat subtieler geworden met de Mario Bros geluidjes, zonder hun unieke geluid te verkwanselen. De (bas)gitaar rift er lekker op los en het is zo geweldig catchy en melodieus. Kippenvel! Tekstueel weet het ook te raken, zoals met Pendulum.
Als op het einde die vrouwelijke 2e stem erbij komt en het geheel nog moduleert, moét je emotionele meter wel uitslaan! Ik ervaar het zowel muzikaal als tekstueel als troostend en dat kan ik wel gebruiken, gezien de komende datum van 16 mei. Met de stijl van onderstaande video heb ik weinig op, maar het gaat om de muziek!
